Before they had their daughter, Maryam and Behrooz suffered a missed miscarriage around 8 or 9 weeks. The baby had stopped growing at 5 weeks. Because Maryam had fainted several times due to and infection and not being able to eat or drink, they were sent to the hospital emergency department where she was initially treated for dehydration symptoms and not the miscarriage. It took Maryam and Behrooz a while to make the emergency staff understand what was going on.
They hope that through conversation the topic of miscarriage will be normalised so that people can feel they are allowed to talk about it, because many people suffer in silence.
